Research work in the context of the Kitabanga Project is grouped into several annual programs and others that are limited in time. Of note are:

  • Program for identification, collection of biometric data and marking of turtles; permanent
  • Nest identification and monitoring program; permanent
  • Aerial senses program; anual
  • Coastal senses program; bianual 
  • Monitoring program for the Ilha-Corimba-Baia do Mussulo complex; anual  
  • Program to collect tissue samples from different species for genetic analysis based on the study of the sea turtle population in Angola; periodical ongoing
  • Program for placing transmitters (GPS) on olive turtles to monitor their migratory behavior; in the final fase of analysis
  • Program for placing transmitters (GPS) on leatherback turtles to monitor their migratory behavior; ongoing
  • Program for placing transmitters (GPS) on green turtles to monitor their migratory behavior; in preparation
  • Program for the assessment of the remains of turtles moored along the coast and their respective analysis; permanent

Training is of great relevance for the continuity of the work developed by the Kitabanga Project, in this sense the following have been comtemplated:

  • Training program and updating of knowledge of the agents involved in the work of the project at the different sampling pointsanual
  • Program for the involvement of students from the FC/UAN biology course and volunteers, in the continuous opportunity to handle specimens for different purposes, studies and approaches, including internships. anual
  • Program of exchange of experiences between technicians of the Kitabanga project with other similar projects. anual
